If so, have these alternative treatments been successful for your students in the classroom? While I’ve seen medication both help and hinder students, I’ve only worked with one child whose family used alternative treatment (diet regulation & whatnot). It didn’t help w/focusing attention in the classroom. I know many parents on here have said they prefer these alternative methods, but I’d like to know if teachers have seen the same positive results in the classroom. Thanks!

I have recently been diagnosed with mild/moderate asthma stemming from severe allergies. I am on a steroid inhaler, and albuterol when needed, but is there anything else I can do to reduce my dependance on the inhalers? Natural, holistic treatments that can help me breathe easier?
No, I will not stop with the inhalers. I just want to reduce my dependance and improve my overall lung function without ADDING anymore medication.
Would air purifiers help?

A well-known pharmaceutical company, Robins & Robins, is working through a public scandal. Three popular medications which they sell over-the-counter have been determined to be tainted with small particles of plastic explosive. It has not yet been determined where the plastic explosives came from, but over million in inventory is impacted. The inventory is located throughout the Western United States, and it is possible that it has also made its way into parts of Canada. A recall occurs but it is mostly unsuccessful.
Last fall, the FDA had promulgated an administrative rule which stated that all pharmaceutical companies which sold over-the-counter medications must incorporate a special tracking bar code (i.e. UPC bars) on all packaging, to ensure that recalls could be done with very little trouble. This bar code would have cost about $.35 (cents) per package, which would have cost the company nearly million on this batch of inventory.
Robins & Robins lobbied hard against this rule, and managed to get it stopped in the public comments period. They utilized multiple arguments, including the cost (which would be passed on to consumers). They also raised “privacy” concerns, which they discussed simply to get public interest groups upset. (One of the drugs impacted is used for assisting with alcoholism treatment – specifically for withdrawal symptoms and many alcoholics were afraid their use of the drug could be tracked back to them.) Robins & Robins argued that people would be concerned about purchasing the medication with a tracking mechanism included with the packaging and managed to get enough public interest groups against the rule. The FDA decided not to impose the rule.
Question:
Robins & Robins immediately issued a massive recall for the tainted medication, upon learning of the situation. Despite the recall, 1400 children and 350 adults have been hospitalized after becoming very ill after taking the tainted medication. Each of them had failed to note the recall after having already purchased the medication. It is quickly determined that they will need liver transplants and many of them are on a waiting list. During the wait, to date, 12 children have died. Their families are considering suing for 402A and negligence, both. The attorneys stated that but for the lobbying efforts, the recall process would have been automated and the people would not have gotten sick or died.
You are an employee with the FDA. You are drafting a memo to your boss analyzing the FDA’s liability and explaining why the FDA did the right thing in deciding not to pass the original tracking bar (UPC) rule. You are specifically being told to respond to the issue of the deaths, and illnesses. What would you write? Include (and explain fully) any defenses you feel that the FDA could use against any negligence or public relation cases. Explain what liability (if any) could the FDA have to the victims and their families

From what I understand, an allergic response is the body overreacting to a harmless substance. They can show up any time in life, and disappear just as suddenly.
I know there are lots of medication options, but has anyone had success with any alternative therapies? Has anyone actually eliminated allergies this way?

I’ve been addicted to oxycodone for the past 2 years. Before anyone corrects me, I’m not dependent on prescribed medication, I’m addicted to prescription medication not prescribed to me. I’m ready to quit, because I’m tired of the financial strain it’s put on me, and because I’m sick and tired of going through these massive withdrawals when I don’t have any. I don’t know what to do, I’ve kept this completely hidden from family and friends this whole time, I’ve got no one to turn to, and no idea where to start on the road to recovery. I’ve heard of the traditional methadone treatment, but I’ve heard dependency develops with that, too. Also, I’ve heard of Suboxone treatment but my supplier told me his wife is on it, and the doctor told her she’d be on it the rest of her life. I wanna get off pills, not switch to another alternative. I am far too terrified to jus go cold turkey, and get over it, I tried once, but after 8 days, the withdrawals had not let up and I relapsed. I’m so lost, if it helps anyone to give me advice, I’ve been taking 3, 80mg OxyContins for the past 2 years, everyday. That’s 320mg everyday. Is there anyone who’s gone through this before? What can I do? Please no judgemental answers, I feel terrible enough, considering I’m only 18, and am already an addict, and have gone through alcoholism, meth addiction, and nicotine addiction. I need help, can anyone help me?

My son was diagnosed with ADHD today, finally. What is the best medication for this? I was looking at Vyvanse which has mild side effects and has been highly rated for it’s effectiveness. Has anyone tried Vyvanse for their child?
Also, if you know of any alternative treatments or methods that work well along with medication, I am interested in these too.

I’m looking for stuff like vitamins and herbs, maybe tea or something. Not therapy or medication. I’d even consider crystals and other new age stuff like that.
Much thanks in advance ^_^
I don’t mind exploring the weird things as well as the more normal things lol. Anyways, I’m paranoid about medication. I’m worried about addiction.

Besides going to the doctor and getting prescription medication, is there a way to treat depression? Are there any herbs or activities (besides exercising to release endorphins) that can help restore balance to the brain?
I’m talking about real, clinical, sever depression not "oh I feel sad today".

to be skeptical of them? Is there a point where you say "looks like he did change."
I am asking this in terms of alcoholism and mental illness that is being treated with medication. This person SEEMS to be having a positive reaction to the treatment~ but how much time should I give it before getting my heart involved?
Thanks!

My husband was diagnosed with depression 6 years ago. He has been on several types of medication, they all work for a while and then they just STOP. I have studied alternative medication for 2 years. My husband really doesn’t want to be on the pills anymore, so I have been giving him the Sam-E supplements along with St Johns Wort and a Stress tab with energy. I am wondering what else I could be doing. I was giving him a Kava/valerian supplement for his anxiety but recently he started to state that he was exhausted, so I started giving him the stress tabs instead. They are like an energy vitamin with iron. Does anyone know anything that can help me, I am doing the best I know how. Do homeopathic clinics take insurance?
Although I appreciate the Godly sermon, I know that depression is a combination of a chemical imbalance in the brain and specific deficiencies. My husband was born an oddly "sad" child. His parents went to church, his mother was fully devoted to him. Lack of God and family has nothing to do with the reason my husband has been depressed his entire life. They thought it was just who he was and let it go, but when he was 26 he went to a doctor and was told he was depressed. He is very different without his medication, I’m not sure the alternatives will work for him, but we are trying.

My best friend has decided to kick his bad habit of drinking. He was drinking a 12 pack per day (3.2 % beer). He is now drinking either 1 or 2 beers per day but is having terrible withdrawal symptoms. He is shaking constantly and has a continual headache and is unable to sleep. Occasionally, he will break into a sweat. He wants to see a doctor and I have looked for alcohol treatment places in our area but the majority of them only provide counseling. He feels that he would benefit from counseling services but was also wanting to be prescribed medication to deal with withdrawal symptoms and something to combat cravings. Can a family practice physician treat this or does he need to go somewhere else? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
My main question is what type of doctor should he see…..family, psychiatrist, etc.

Medication is not an option, so don’t even bother. Therapy is good for coping ie. not blowing your brains out. What else is there?
I’m not against therapy! Where did you get that idea?

I have a panic disorder and a psychotic disorder. My mother is drinking herself to death and my father is going senile. I have a supportive by very pushy girlfriend. What can I do with my mother? She will not go into treatment and right now she’s laying in her chair drunk and vomiting. My father can do nothing but help as much as he can. My girlfriend is good to me but she pushes me to get off of my medication and pushes me into extremely uncomfortable situations in order to try to break my illness.
Right now I’m getting a cold and I am freaking out. I have no health insurance and my medication is running out. Please help me. I’d commit suicide if it weren’t for my girlfriend and my own fear of death.
The twist is that I’m 20, my grandparents adopted me and my real mother just moved out(she doesn’t drink but is very ill with depression). Now no one can take care of my while my adopted parents suffer. I just want to die, there’s no one I can turn to. I don’t know how to live a normal life like everyone else. please help me.

Robins & Robins argued that people would be concerned about purchasing the medication with a tracking mechanism included with the packaging and managed to get enough public interest groups against the rule. The FDA decided not to impose the rule.
The FDA decides to require all pharmaceutical companies to immediately implement the tracking bars (UPC) as a result of the disaster with Robins & Robins. Robins & Robins decides not to challenge this and begins the process of adding them to all of their products. However, McFadden, Inc., a New York pharmaceutical realizes that this new requirement is going to bankrupt them immediately. McFadden did not participate in the original public comment period. However, this rule
is different from the rule which went through that public comment period, in that it specifically names 4 companies as being impacted, Robins & Robins, McFadden, Inc., Bayer, and Johnson & Johnson. On what bases can McFadden challenge this requirement imposed by the FDA? Provide at least two bases under the Administrative Procedures Act. Would the injuries from the Robins & Robins situation impact the chances that this challenge would be successful? Why or why not?
Question 2, please help me ASAP
It is discovered that Robins & Robins knew about the tainted medication two months earlier than they announced the recall. They hid it, and in fact, sent out contract buyers to try to buy up all of the medication off the shelves. Their “fake” recall failed. Using the Laura Nash method of analyzing ethical dilemmas, analyze the ethical dilemma faced by the CEO of Robins & Robins for the fact that they saved 35 cents/package and are now in the middle of a major, life threatening recall. Analyze their “fake” recall as well. Show all of the steps of the model and give a recommendation to the CEO of what to do now that the deaths are escalating. What is the “right” thing for the CEO to do in this case? Did the model help you come to this conclusion or did you use some other method? Explain.

I have a moderate case of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and have been on pretty strong medications for it since I was 2 years old. I currently have a 3 1/2 month old and am breast feeding so I can not take any medication. I am in a lot of pain but do not want to sacrifice the breast feeding so I am looking for another option. Example: a special diet or anything???

My four year old son was just diagnosed with ADHD (more hyperactivity than attention). My husband and I will choose the medication route only as a last resort after all other methods of treatment have been exhausted. I’ve heard about cutting sugar and processed foods out of the diet and Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids (flax seed and fish oil), but is there anything else out there that is safe enough to try?

My son has had schizophrenia for 10 years and is mostly noncompliant with the medication regimen. Even when he is compliant it doesnt seem to help much other than making him sluggish, heavy and unable to function. It takes away the terror but does not really allow him to live a "normal" life I have begun investigating some alternative treatments such as orthomolecular treatment, Edgar Cayce wet cell Battery, and nutritional protocols that address the whole person. I would like input from others on their experiences and what they found to be helpful in addition to medications, also caregivers impressions on the current treatments being offered for this devastating disease.
