What alternative treatments are there for a grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumor ?

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Hi, my father just decided that he does not want to go forth with radiotherapy as he has a grade 4 glioblastoma and this is an incurable tumor. Even if he goes forth with radiotherapy it will only give him a max. of 2 more months. He has decided that all the fatigue and possible side effects are not worth it. Does anyone know of any other alternative treatments that we could look into??? Any other cancer fighting tips are appreciated as welll!

            Alternative Treatments for Ovarian Cancer?

            Sunday, December 19th, 2010

Well the news 5 months from diagnosis is in…mom asked and he said the cancer is very agressive and they have to try an ‘experimental’ drug that is out there (clinical trial I assume). Anyways he said he gives her 1 to 2 years and there will be no cure. she was on carboplatnim and went from (after surgery) the 1000’s to 125, now it is going up again.

So is there anything that can be used to help out chemo and give my mom a fighting chance? I’ve seen stuff on Maitake D-Fraction, I3C, ginger, etc.

Is there hope? Can we use alternative treatments to compliment the drugs/chemo?

Could anyone show me some primary literature of alternative treatments being effective at curing cancer?

            Sunday, November 7th, 2010

I asked a question this morning about whether people should be allowed to tell people on this board to quit chemo and try alternative medications, or if it was a dangerous practice that should be banned. A couple responders claimed that these treatments do work, but when I challenged them to show me some scientific evidence, nobody did. Can anyone show me evidence these treatments are effective cures?
a: that isnt primary literature, those are articles written by journalists on a website. and they mostly talk about possibilities of preventing cancer, not natural cures that could replace chemo

Writing a paper about alcoholism? Help with topic ideas?

            Friday, October 22nd, 2010

I have an eight page paper about alcoholism due this Friday. I’m brainstorming what I want to write about and trying to come up with questions I can answer within my paper, relating to the disease, of course.

            So far, I’ve thought of:

Basic statistics (How many people are affected by alcoholism in the US? How many are men/women? What’s the economic/social level of those affected? Age range? Race?…)
            Risk Factors
Possible causes (I’ll only touch briefly on this, since no one really knows whether it’s inherited or not. I will present both sides.)
            Symptoms
Diagnosis (Using the AUDIT/CAGE testing system, etc…)
Treatment (How many treated actually stay sober, as opposed to going back to the bottle? What are the treatment options?)
Other health issues that stem from being an alcoholic (Liver failure, cancer, depression, bi-polar disorder, etc…)
What could be done better/more to inform the public about alcoholism

What else would you like to know about alcoholism, if you were reading my paper? Do you have any other topic ideas I could touch on? Thanks!
