Just rambling about why i feel into this vicious cycle of depression and anxiety and the lesson i learned. Gradually coming off medicine, and updating my thoughts while coming off pills as i hopefully one day be free and not depend on anti-depressants. I had a long 12 hour shift so i was a bit tired when i made this, but i felt like making the video before i got too lazy.

Not long-term, but for evaluation, treatment, and detox. She is not using illegal street drugs, but large amounts of Tramadol and Darvocet, prescriptions of which she obtained offline from pharmacies in other countries, without her psychiatric doctor’s knowledge because she has a history of alcoholism. We cannot talk to her doctor to tell him this because of doctor-patient-confidentiality. She has not proven a danger to herself or others, but is delusional to the point of not being able to function within our family, has auditory hallucinations, and I’m sure many other symptoms I do not know about. She stays up all night, which only makes her symptoms worse the next day. There is no one she is close to, because she thinks our entire family is out to get her and doing things that we aren’t, she won’t go to any stores because they think she is talking about her, and won’t even go get the mail because she thinks the neighbors are against her. She sits inside all day, delusional and on drugs, and we no longer know what steps to take

Helping a friend with an addiction problem.?

                    Friday, September 9th, 2011

I live downstairs from my BFF, and I just found out that she was drinking again. She had been in treatment before, and when she left promised that she would continue with the meetings and therapy, and I found out last night that she started drinking again. The reason I know is because a family member called me to tell me that they were upstairs and taking her to rehab. When we would get together she did not appear to be drunk. I do not know anything about alcoholism so my question is could this have happened when I wasn’t there, and how much do close friends and family really know even if they are right there? And my other question is that if she had trusted me enough to confide in me, would it have been right to notify her family to get her the help that she needs. Her father said this morning that he wished I had told him. Wasn’t that up to her to tell him that she had a problem, and second how can I say something if I don’t know anything. Also anyone with experience in dealing with this would be helpful or any insights, but how does an alcoholic keep it from everyone?

Explain the causes of Mr. X's abnormal liver function test results. Explain some of Mr. X's symptoms ………?

                      Wednesday, September 7th, 2011

Mr. X has been admitted to the accident and emergency department. He has been involved in a motorbike accident, is unconscious and has leg injuries which will require surgery.
Witnesses at the scene of the accident told ambulance staff that he did not appear to have proper control of his motorbike and drove headlong into the path of an upcoming vehicle.
Before Mr. X can undergo surgery for his crushed leg his blood needs to be tested to see if he has any underlying conditions which need to be taken into account before surgery commences. He also shows signs of internal haemorrhaging and may also require treatment for blood loss.
The blood results have now been returned from the laboratory emergency services and it now transpires that Mr. X has raised blood alcohol levels and was drunk at the time of the accident.
His hospital medical records have been traced and reveal that Mr. X has been receiving ongoing medical care for liver disease due to alcoholism.
He has been attending monthly clinics to monitor his liver function.
Before Mr. X can receive blood products for transfusion they need to be screened. Mr. X will show specific symptoms of liver disease.

Explain the causes of Mr. X’s abnormal liver function test results. Explain some of Mr. X’s symptoms of liver disease (such as jaundice and prolonged clotting time). What advice will doctors give Mr. X to improve his prognosis?

my g/f is bisexual — lied to me about it — & is bipolar & ocd, won't get help?

                              Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

She’s lied to me — her b/f of ~ 8 months now — about being bisexual; I know for a fact she is bi. She has a history of cruising bars to pick up men or women for one-night stands. She tells me she wants to have a child with me. She’s untreated bipolar, has a sibling institutionalized for BP (criminal-justice system mental-health facility), has uncontrollable rages and mood swings, hypersexuality / promiscuity, alcoholism (she’s stopped drinking for the time being) and prescription drug abuse (no Rx) (and she has combined booze and pills to the point of nearly killing herself once), and uncontrollable impulses ranging from spending sprees to sudden travel, etc. She’s also OCD, with family history. But she refuses treatment. Only grudgingly has she ‘accepted’ the idea of going in for a full psychiatric evaluation, but without acting on it.

What can I do? I’ve tried being supportive. She’s lied about her bisexuality in what is supposed to be a relationship between heteros. Help!

Does my angry alcoholic mother come live with me and my family?

                                  Sunday, August 28th, 2011

My mother and her husband are separating due to my stepdads gambling addition and my mothers angry alcoholism. My brother and sister think she should come live with me cause I’m a stay at home mom and I will have time to babysit her. I’ve told my mom that I would love to have her here but No drinking or screaming in the house. She can not commit to no booze and says she s able to be a social drinker (which I know is BS! and she refuses treatment) She refuses to live anywhere else but my house. I’m worried cause i know she will drink herself to death in no time! I don’t want her to die!!! and i don’t want her to live with me! I’ve spent most of my life getting away from her (in the next country) and building a lovely life for myself and my family. How can I help her?
and when I say separating i mean he left her and she thinks hes gone to the bush to die. She has severe anxiety disorder and all she wants to do is drink herself to death in her house (which she is going to lose in a few months). so if she came to live with me i would have to convince her and basically get her paperwork in order as well as well as take her hand to the airport. She has mentioned that she would come live with me but not my siblings. My brother wants to be the one to take care of her (and cant get into the states) but is very unstable himself. My sister has been the most involved(who lives in the states in another state from her) has been the one trying to take care of their finances and keep them afloat but recently gave her money back to them. I just want to do the right thing.
Thank you all for your input it really helps!!

I'm an adult with an alcoholic mother, please help!?

                                    Friday, August 26th, 2011

As far as I can remember my mom has enjoyed drinking. Sometimes she’s funny and jokes around, but she has to drink every day and becomes a monster when she drinks vodka. Attacking us emotionally (she’s done it to me and my father and sister multiple times) she gets physically violent, and once when taunting me to punch her, got so angry she began to punch her own face & laugh. This is such a severe problem. I’m growing distant from my mom because I can’ ttake it anymore. I haven’t lived at home for over 7 years, but I am close to my family and we talk multiple times a week, and they only live ten minutes away. Her drinking is self destructive, and my dad, I feel sorry for him. Her rants last hours upon hours, and I don’t know what to do. Alcoholism has killed to of her brothers, both of which took their own lives, and I fear the same for my mom who is a housewive, and always has been. She has one friend, who I call Grandma, but even she doesn’t know about my moms alcohol problem. My sister and I have been talking about getting her committed to get treatment. I love my mom very much. She’s the first person I call when I have good news, or bad news. Sober she is a great woman, but like I said, a monster when she’s drunk. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I don’t want to loose this relationship but it is emotionally draining me slowly. Thanks.

AA (part 2 of question) agnostic looking for help?

                                      Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Hi. I ask earlier today about the posibility of benefitting from AA even though I do not believe in God and will not change me belief as I am being true to myself.
I got many good and thoughtful answers, with some thinking it could be of help, and some not.
I am very committed to cleaning up my drinking problem and have looked over the 12 steps. I’m asking if anybody who is a non-believer has been able to modify the program within themselves to help them rcover from alcoholism?
I’m interested in attending so I can communicate with people that have the same problem and would treat everyone around me with respect and compassion should I decide to attend.
I know there are many alternative groups, but none are near me, I’ve looked extensively.
For my current treatment, I see a psychiatrist specializing in addiction, but would like to talk to normal folks.
Also, I would like to bring my husband with me as he is very supportive. Has anyone done this?
                                      Thank you for your answers.
Also, because I’ve remained highly functional during my rough time, I choose not to tell most friends and family about this, so I don’t have that support system.

Confession: I am an alcoholic, I have been very good at hiding it, how do I assure them, that I need help?

                                        Sunday, August 21st, 2011

I drink as much as I can, I am a young mother, my children our young, I have found a treatment facility that includes your children in your recovery, but since I have been AMAZING at hiding my alcoholism, all of my family and friends keep telling me that I could probably stop with "outpatients" or "you do not need to stop drinking entirely, you are fun to drink with", the catch 22 is these are the same people who tell me, when I am openly drunk around them, that I "shouldnt drink so much" or
"you cant handle your alcohol" or you are a "mean drunk", I know what they say is true, but the thing is, I CANNOT STOP DRINKING! even when I try, I cannot, I feel that. for my children, I should get help, and not to feel ashamed, since in the long run, they are going to be much happier, but I have everyone around me, in a sense, criticizing me for wanting to get this help! I am confused, I know I do not tell them all, but I still feel that they should see I am asking for help, and embrace it, ??

Should I get counseling because my extended family is SO screwed up and dysfunctional?

                                          Thursday, August 18th, 2011

My paternal grandfather passed away last week after my aunt (who had tricked him into making her his power of attorney) stopped his medical treatment without consulting the rest of the family or letting anyone know. My grandfather’s doctors had said that with treatment he probably would have recovered and lived maybe another 10 years, but my aunt wanted him to die so she could inherit his money.

After he died my dad told me the truth about his side of the family, and I was shocked to find out how messed up they are.

My dad has 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

My two uncles were molested by a pedophile in Europe when they were in their early teens, even though my grandmother had been warned about this guy before. she still let them go on a trip with him because she wanted them out of the house for the summer. when they returned and tried to tell my grandmother what had happened to them, she just laughed at them.

my older uncle was involved in a cult, was tormented by his mother for failing in school, may autistic, and is constantly unemployed.

my younger uncle got involved in drugs and gangs, and got fired from several jobs for stealing.

my oldest aunt (who killed my grandpa) wanted nothing more than to be a carbon copy of her mother. she yelled at my dad in front of 40 family members at a christmas party at our house, blamed my dad for absolutely everything for no reason, tricked her way into spying on my grandpa’s financial stuff and made him cry when she found out he was giving me money for school, and put her dog to sleep because she didn’t want to spend money on vet bills. Even before my grandpa died last week, she was stealing stuff from his house, and she put his house up for sale less than 24 hours after his funeral.

my youngest aunt (the nicest and most generous person I have ever met) was a workaholic and battling alcoholism while on chemotherapy, and was anorexic because my grandmother pressured her to be thin.

my grandmother was emotionally and physically abusive, and when my grandpa left the house one afternoon, she called the humane society and got them to put my grandpa’s 4 beloved kittens to sleep because she didn’t want them. and when my dad was in university and wanted to go to europe one summer, she threatened to kill his cat if he went.

my grandfather was the sweetest man ever, but he was emotionally distant and wasn’t capable of loving others or standing up for himself because his own father had died when he was young and then his mother abandoned him.

My parents don’t trust my aunt or uncles and warned me to never be alone with them. None of my surviving aunt or uncles have ever shown any interest in me, their only niece. My parents have hosted countless parties and family get-togethers at our house, but we have never once been invited to anything by my dad’s siblings. His side of the family would always get together for a big dinner every Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, WITHOUT us.

I’ve been trying to deal with all of this, but I feel physically sick and disgusted with my dad’s family. Should I get counseling?
                                          I’m a 19-year-old girl.

What is the thesis statement of this paragraph?

                                            Monday, August 15th, 2011

I have to critique an informative essay and this is the first paragraph. What is the thesis statement, please?

In recent times, many researches have been conducting on therapy and treatment options available for people who are substance (drugs and alcohol) abusers, and these have come a long way from the older treatment options (e.g. Glasscote et al, 1972). These observations have led the researchers to believe that drug addiction and alcoholism are not just primarily a physical ailment but it is also complemented heavily by environmental factors. Alcoholics and drug abusers tend to follow a specific pattern and we find that many of the people who have alcoholic tendencies come from their genetic makeup (Crabbe, 2002). Yet, even though there are some genetic influences that come into play, the abuse is fed by the abuser’s immediate environmental factors, such as the attitudes of the family, friends, and support groups. The genetic side of this ailment explains how there are metabolic, structural, and neuro-chemical malfunctions in the brain that causes a person to become addicted to the drugs, which are supplemented by the environmental factors such as the various home, psychological, and social dynamics that the person experiences in his or her life. These two factors are bi-directional, which means that they both interact and conflict with each other in making the symptoms of alcoholism stronger in a person.

Here is the link to the full essay if you need it:

                                              Saturday, August 13th, 2011

A well-known pharmaceutical company, Robins & Robins, is working through a public scandal. Three popular medications which they sell over-the-counter have been determined to be tainted with small particles of plastic explosive. It has not yet been determined where the plastic explosives came from, but over million in inventory is impacted. The inventory is located throughout the Western United States, and it is possible that it has also made its way into parts of Canada. A recall occurs but it is mostly unsuccessful.
Last fall, the FDA had promulgated an administrative rule which stated that all pharmaceutical companies which sold over-the-counter medications must incorporate a special tracking bar code (i.e. UPC bars) on all packaging, to ensure that recalls could be done with very little trouble. This bar code would have cost about $.35 (cents) per package, which would have cost the company nearly million on this batch of inventory.
Robins & Robins lobbied hard against this rule, and managed to get it stopped in the public comments period. They utilized multiple arguments, including the cost (which would be passed on to consumers). They also raised “privacy” concerns, which they discussed simply to get public interest groups upset. (One of the drugs impacted is used for assisting with alcoholism treatment – specifically for withdrawal symptoms and many alcoholics were afraid their use of the drug could be tracked back to them.) Robins & Robins argued that people would be concerned about purchasing the medication with a tracking mechanism included with the packaging and managed to get enough public interest groups against the rule. The FDA decided not to impose the rule.

                                              Question:
Robins & Robins immediately issued a massive recall for the tainted medication, upon learning of the situation. Despite the recall, 1400 children and 350 adults have been hospitalized after becoming very ill after taking the tainted medication. Each of them had failed to note the recall after having already purchased the medication. It is quickly determined that they will need liver transplants and many of them are on a waiting list. During the wait, to date, 12 children have died. Their families are considering suing for 402A and negligence, both. The attorneys stated that but for the lobbying efforts, the recall process would have been automated and the people would not have gotten sick or died.

You are an employee with the FDA. You are drafting a memo to your boss analyzing the FDA’s liability and explaining why the FDA did the right thing in deciding not to pass the original tracking bar (UPC) rule. You are specifically being told to respond to the issue of the deaths, and illnesses. What would you write? Include (and explain fully) any defenses you feel that the FDA could use against any negligence or public relation cases. Explain what liability (if any) could the FDA have to the victims and their families

Is it Christian charity to tell people they are not responsible for their own medical care?

                                                          Sunday, July 31st, 2011

In Jesus’ version of health care, Christians healed the sick, often at considerable personal sacrifice (see Luke 10:25-37). In the liberal version, Christians are absolved from healing the sick by enacting a government entitlement to health care, so that those who are sick can commandeer the resources of others for their care. They don’t have to pay doctors, borrow money, or buy health insurance for medical emergencies, but simply demand others pick up their bills.

Under existing policy, this means they can appear at hospital emergency rooms for treatment of minor ailments rather than use over-the-counter medications or pay out-of-pocket to see primary-care physicians during their regular hours, leaving those with genuine emergencies to spend long ordeals awaiting treatment.

Under liberal visions of "universal health care," it means everyone is on Medicaid, no longer responsible for paying doctors, and no longer responsible for rejecting smoking, drugs, alcoholism, and unhealthy foods, or for taking on exercise, stringent diets, and vitamins to exercise stewardship over the "temples of the Holy Spirit" given them by God.

My question is this: Is the Christian charity Jesus requires in telling his disciples to heal the sick to enact a system of health-care irresponsibility?

I’ve been addicted to oxycodone for the past 2 years. Before anyone corrects me, I’m not dependent on prescribed medication, I’m addicted to prescription medication not prescribed to me. I’m ready to quit, because I’m tired of the financial strain it’s put on me, and because I’m sick and tired of going through these massive withdrawals when I don’t have any. I don’t know what to do, I’ve kept this completely hidden from family and friends this whole time, I’ve got no one to turn to, and no idea where to start on the road to recovery. I’ve heard of the traditional methadone treatment, but I’ve heard dependency develops with that, too. Also, I’ve heard of Suboxone treatment but my supplier told me his wife is on it, and the doctor told her she’d be on it the rest of her life. I wanna get off pills, not switch to another alternative. I am far too terrified to jus go cold turkey, and get over it, I tried once, but after 8 days, the withdrawals had not let up and I relapsed. I’m so lost, if it helps anyone to give me advice, I’ve been taking 3, 80mg OxyContins for the past 2 years, everyday. That’s 320mg everyday. Is there anyone who’s gone through this before? What can I do? Please no judgemental answers, I feel terrible enough, considering I’m only 18, and am already an addict, and have gone through alcoholism, meth addiction, and nicotine addiction. I need help, can anyone help me?
